The conversion of 2 grade II listed former tannery warehouse buildings into 24 apartments.
The Victorian buildings were derelict and in a poor state. We undertook extensive investigations to understand the layout and condition of each building and developed a scheme for retaining as much of the existing building as was feasible.
The floor structures were rotten and so needed to be replaced; this allowed us to introduce an additional floor in one of the blocks and increase the number of units on the site. We developed a sequence of demolition and construction to minimise temporary propping. New floors are constructed using engineered timber joists.
The red brick façade on to Stour Street was extended with a new build section containing 3 new townhouses; the detailing of the brickwork has been carefully developed to match the existing as closely as possible.
