About Samuely

History

We can trace our roots back to 1936 when Felix Samuely began work on the De La Warr Pavillion with Serge Chermayeff. The company quickly gained a reputation for innovative and radical engineering and over the subsequent years we’ve worked on some of the UK’s most significant projects, such as The Skylon (1951), US Embassy (1960) and the Cambridge University Centre (1967). This allowed us to experiment with material and form and many of these buildings are now listed.

Our Passion & Approach to Engineering

At Samuely, engineering is not just about solving problems — it’s about unlocking possibilities. Our passion and approach to engineering is rooted in the pioneering spirit of Felix J. Samuely, who championed close collaboration with architects and saw structure as an integral part of architectural expression.

We embrace complexity with clarity, combining deep technical expertise with an open, creative mindset. Whether working with traditional materials like steel, timber, and concrete or exploring the potential of glass, carbon fibre, and advanced composites, we strive for solutions that are efficient, elegant, and enduring.

Every project is an opportunity to challenge convention, refine form, and design with purpose.

Sustainability

Sustainability is at the core of our engineering philosophy. We see every project as an opportunity to reduce environmental impact through intelligent design, efficient use of materials, and long-term resilience.

Our approach starts early — working collaboratively from the concept stage to optimise structural systems for low carbon outcomes, minimise waste, and maximise reuse wherever possible. Whether it’s selecting responsibly sourced materials, designing for disassembly, or extending the life of existing structures, we combine innovation with practical strategies to deliver solutions that are both environmentally and structurally sound.

For us, sustainable design is not an add-on — it’s fundamental to building for the future.

Diversity

Diversity isn’t just a value at our structural engineering consultancy – it’s a strength. With a team representing seven nationalities, we bring a rich mix of perspectives, experiences, and problem-solving approaches to every project. This global mindset fuels innovation, enhances collaboration, and helps us design smarter, more inclusive structures that meet the needs of a rapidly changing world.

“Where the architect is willing to base appearance on structure, it is up to the engineer to develop structures that are capable of expression.”
