ORDNANCE ROAD
Part of a number of housing schemes for London Borough of Enfield these 2 projects perhaps encapsulate how good “social” housing can be, providing some thought goes in to the design.
The housing is constructed using traditional materials; the sites are rather un-assuming plots: old garage sites, wasteland etc. What makes the blocks so attractive is the attention to detail by the architect. For once design quality was allowed to flourish because the client insisted the architect continued with their appointment beyond RIBA stage 4, hence limiting the opportunity to “value engineer” quality out of the final product.
One day ALL social housing will be designed like this.
